Big Bad Wolf Chapter 22

Eating At Him

Javier

“I could die from the pure pleasure of kissing you. I’m done for, lady, and I’m yours. Command me, and my heart will obey. Please don’t deny me your presence. I need you like I need to breathe the air.”

“I want you as I have never wanted another. Please, will you always kiss me like that? I know not what else to command you, only that must I always have from you.”

She was so innocent and so intent.

Javier leaned back down to kiss her once more. The fire swirled over him, and the light traveled over her. The tingling sensation was intense.

As their tongues met again, he groaned and lost one hand in her hair as the other slipped down to bring her hips closer to him. She melted into him.

He’d never been so aroused. Her center pressed against his erection. He cupped the back of her head with his large hand and tilted her head as he deepened the kiss. She moaned into him wantonly as his erection was grinding against her center, and he held her tightly to him.

The magic was bright and entwined so tightly that he breathed the flames as they kissed. His whole being was floating.

Yes, he would always kiss her like that. He never wanted to stop. He wanted to breathe the flames and kiss her like that forever.

The magic created her for him to kiss. He would have her. No one else would ever taste her like that.

She tried to break the kiss. He growled at her. His wolf refused to let her go.

She was his. He was going to take her. He would mark her and claim her for his own.

She trilled softly, and the spell broke. He released her immediately.

“Too much?” he asked her in a whisper.

She nodded. She was so alluring, chewing her kiss swollen bottom lip. He could tell she liked it. The intensity overwhelmed her.

He never wanted her to be afraid of him. He wanted to win her and keep her for himself. She was the chase of a lifetime.

“Javier, the flames are in your eyes. I’ve never seen that. I’m not sure…” she trailed off.

He took her by the shoulders gently.

“It’s okay. I’m fine. You’re amazing. I’m sorry about growling at you. It was just an expression. My wolf didn’t wish the kiss to end. But I’ll never force you to do anything. I want you, but only if you want me. I’ll always follow your command, and I’ll never hurt you or push you.”

Javier reassured her as he searched her eyes to know she knew he meant what he said. He wanted her madly. He would never force her. It would kill his soul to harm her like that.

“Will you still kiss me like that?” She asked him, unsure.

“Always,” he promised her as he wrapped her in his arms and held her close to him, smelling her hair, breathing her in, calming his soul, and easing her anxiety.

He was serious about kissing her like that forever. He wanted to do it again right then. Shit, he was so lost to her.

If she had told him to fly into the sun, he would have gone in search of Icarus’s broken wings to make it. She was fast becoming the slowest ride into insanity, and there was no chance he was going to miss arriving at his destination.

“Come on. We need to find some food. I need a shower, and we need to get that easel set up in the solarium. Are you ready?” he asked.

Isabell nodded and smiled as he released her. Javier grabbed the easel and the painting and headed for his truck. He desperately needed to speak with Fox about the phoenix he was falling for.

When they got to Fox’s place, Eli and Luke were there. Fox and Artie had cooked steaks, baked potatoes, and salad. Isabell and Javier served themselves plates and sat down at the table to join them.

They all laughed and smiled. Fox teased them about not making it back. When she told them about flying with Javier, even Fox smiled at her.

He was usually so reserved. Fox was happy for his friend. Javier liked the sly old fox even more for the genuine affection that he had for Isabell. It was truly as if he had adopted her as his favorite niece.

Javier caught Luke’s eye. Better to get it over with sooner than later. Luke was eager to learn if whatever was going on with Fox was a threat to their idea of a pack.

They let the ladies clean up as they followed Fox into the library with their drinks. Javier got schooled before they asked Fox about his real motivation behind the pack and the magic.

“Fox, talk to me about Isabell. I need to know how some things work. This morning, just before five, she regenerated. We were asleep when it started. I was holding her as she slept to keep the nightmares away, and whatever the flames did to her, they did it to me as well. How is that possible? Somebody better let me in on what’s happening here.” Javier said, not threatening, just lost, looking for answers.

“That’s good news about her regenerating. That means she’s truly on the mend. Her fire is back. Did she tell you it will happen every twenty-five years?” Fox asked, and Javier nodded.

“Yeah. My question is, how did it regenerate me? I saw what happened when she killed her attacker. Her flames don’t freeze or burn me. They lit me up like a Christmas tree.” Javier said, confused by the two polar opposite phoenix flame activities.

Fox looked at Luke, all smiles in a rare open mood.

“Add light blocking on the doors and windows, along with the soundproofing.” He laughed.

“So tell me, is kissing her unpleasant? Does it burn or freeze?” Fox asked him.

“Hey, that’s personal, old man!” Javier growled a warning at Fox but grinned as he lowered his head in embarrassment. Kissing Isabell was a mad joy.

“No, it’s intensely tingly and gratifying, not painful, burning, or freezing.”

He readily admitted his guilty pleasure. He wasn’t ashamed of the way he felt about Isabell. Javier didn’t understand how he wasn’t freezer burnt.

“The phoenix is unique among shifters. They can be intimate only with their mate or another phoenix. Their magic warns away or destroys anyone else. There are very few phoenixes left in the world. Isabell is rare. She was born a phoenix. It’s a lonely existence, for they feel compelled to seek only their one mate. That was Isabell’s life. When you kiss her, does it feel as if your magic and hers intertwine?”

“Yes. She even got scared when she said the flames were in my eyes. It faded by the time I saw a mirror.” Javier offered.

Maybe Isabell just imagined it in her anxiety.

“Well, Javier, you know the truth then, don’t you? Say it out loud and decide what you will do.”

Fox told him as he looked him in the eye.

“She’s my mate, isn’t she?”

Javier turned to Luke.

“That’s why I shifted and jumped when you growled at her that first night. She called to me as she flew, and my direwolf howled back at her. So she came to me. Is that what’s happening? Is she my mate?”

Javier asked Fox, and he didn’t even bother to hide the silly grin splitting his face.

“I suspected as much for a few days now. I think her phoenix recognized you immediately. She craves your touch, your words. When you offer her protection, her anxiety fades. The nightmares stop plaguing her if she sleeps with you. Her magic doesn’t harm you. Instead, it regenerates you and tries to intertwine with your own anytime there’s even a small amount of sexual energy between you. I would say yes.” Fox’s brow wrinkled.

“She may not fully understand that. Isabell is innocent, so you have to be careful. Make a wrong move, and you could push her away instead of drawing her closer. My advice would be to go slow.” Fox admonished.

Ever the attentive uncle, Fox wanted Isabell to find happiness and not misery. That was what Javier wanted, too. Time didn’t matter. He would win her. Even if it took years.

“Luke, we’re gonna need to lightproof, as well as soundproof, the rooms. Photographic darkroom meets sound studio.”

Javier laughed, and Luke grimaced.

Fox surprised them by opening the proper conversation. It must have been eating at him.
